Halo 5 Guardians is a first person shooter developed by 343 industries and published by Microsoft released October 27th exclusively on the Xbox One. Halo 5 takes place 8 months after the events of Halo 4, the UNSC deploy Fireteam Osiris, an elite team of Spartan-IV’s which consists of ONI Agent Locke, Army Engineer H. Tanaka, Navy Translator O. Vale, and the veteran ODST trooper Edward Buck to planet Kamchatka to extract the rogue Dr. Catherine Elizabeth Halsey, who wishes to defect back to the UNSC. While the team is successful in retrieving Halsey and eliminating the Covenant leader Jul ‘Mdama, Halsey informs them that a new problem is emerging.

Elsewhere, the Master Chief, still grieving over the loss of his AI companion Cortana, leads his surviving Spartan-II colleagues, Blue Team, on a mission to the ONI research station Argent Moon where the Covenant have occupied it for an unknown purpose. Members of the team include Kelly, Frederic, and Linda. In their investigation of the Covenant’s objective aboard Argent Moon, Blue Team discovers an advanced stealth ship and other prototypes being looted by the Covenant, deducing that the Covenant’s war against the Arbiter’s forces is starting to become desperate.

During Blue team’s mission to destroy Argent Moon, Chief receives a cryptic message from Cortana, telling him to go to Meridian. When they succeed in destroying Argent Moon, Chief informs Infinity that he plans on going to Meridian, but is ordered to return to the ship for debriefing. Feeling that something is wrong, Chief disobeys orders and informs Infinity that he plans on going. Despite not wanting his team to come with him, they  still decide to accompany him out of loyalty. Captain Lasky was forced to register the rogue Spartans as AWOL. Upon informing Halsey that John had potential contact with Cortana, she begins to panic as Cortana’s survival of Requiem can only mean that she’s transcended to a higher form of artificial intelligence through the use of forerunner technology, meaning that Cortana can no longer be trusted.  Agent Locke and his Osiris team is then ordered to find Master Chief and the Blue team.

What Knocks?

The Story is a bit different from what was expected of the advertisements, it wasn’t bad in any shape it just wasn’t a story revolved around Locke versus Chief as everyone might have thought. I enjoyed playing as both Locke and Chief, the missions were well structured and full of non-stop action. The campaign starts with a bang and maintains that bang all the way to the end.

Halo 5 is the best example of how to create Co-op experience  the best since the the Gears of War Series. Halo 5 supports up to 4 players to participate in its team based campaign. The host is no longer the main character, instead after each mission players are given a choice of who they like to play as. Players are able to help each other up before bleeding out and maps are big enough for players to venture off out of each other’s way.

Halo 5 looks great and plays even better, the new additions to the gameplay enhances the game to a new level however, it still maintains  all the mechanics from the classic halo games in the past.

War Zone is pretty much titanfall in one single mode! Warzone is a 24-player multiplayer mode in Halo 5: Guardians. It features two teams of 12 players each, AI-controlled opponents, and maps up to four times larger than any previous Halo multiplayer map. Warzone utilizes the Requisition system to allow players to get weapons and vehicles in game.

What Don’t Knock?

Halo 3 and Halo 4 were my favorite games in the series Halo 5 now easily takes the nod but there are a few things i didn’t care for in the game. The campaign be completed in 5 hours (on easy) 8-10 hours on heroic  or legendary so it’s likely the shortest halo campaign in the Master Chief saga.

Some of the fight and battle scenes in the campaign should have been in-game player controlled actions, it could have added to the experience. There  is a segment when Chief and Locke exchange a few punches would be cool if it was  at least a QTE moment for that part during single player.

This is One of the most action packed Halo campaigns i’ve ever played and yet the boss fights were sparse and mediocre. There’s about 2 or three  boss fights and only one is really challenging, with that being said the ending isn’t the greatest.

Hunt The Truth
  • 9/10
    Story - 9/10
  • 10/10
    Gameplay - 10/10
  • 9.5/10
    Visuals - 9.5/10
  • 9.5/10
    Multiplayer - 9.5/10
  • 9.5/10
    Replay Value - 9.5/10

Overall Halo 5 Guardians is very good. Sure you can get through the main story in less than 10 hours, but like I said before if the full game can be played cooperatively you don’t want it longer than 10 hours because one may not keep a team together long enough to complete it. Boss fights weren’t impressive but the level of intensity through the campaign was full of action, back to back battles with little slow down time. As far as multiplayer Halo 5 will probably become one of the best multiplayer experience of the series.
