Story

one piece burning blood3

The One Piece saga has been going strong for several years. One of the best incredible story arcs that took place in the series was the Marineford arc. You will get your chance to play through this story. This game offers four different mode types. The first mode is called the “Paramount War.” In this mode you get to relieve the Marienford arc and experience that story with Whitebeard, Luffy, Akainu and Ace. The second game mode you can choose from is called “Wanted Mode.” In this mode the game puts you up against the AI that can range from easy to hard. You will need to accept the bounties by looking at each of their wanted notices which leads to the battle at hand. The third game mode you can pick from is “Training Mode.” In this mode you hone your skills and your techniques to become the best. The fourth and final mode is “Pirate Flag Battle.” In this mode you can fight and control various islands in the One Piece world. This mode gives you the option to fight the AI or go up against other people online around the world.

Now if you are anything like me I have never seen this anime or have played any of the other games before this series. This is where Spike Chunsoft left me hanging out to dry because they didn’t do a good job on the back story they just threw you in the story and let you figure it out yourself. With that being said Spike Chunsoft did give us a beautiful fighting game that I enjoyed. The game lets you team up with three characters and three support characters that will give you various buffs once activated. The controls are simple to learn and you don’t have to worry about trying to memorize a bunch of buttons to pull off your combos it was pretty easy to just jump in the game and to have fun. The motion of the game was a bit hard cause you and your opponent have the freedom to move anywhere in the arena. Which makes  it easy to miss an attack cause you will not always face the right direction of your opponent.

Visuals / Performance / Sound

The graphics and performance of this game were spot on I can’t say this enough. It has a good mix of of anime, cell shade, and hi-def all rolled up into one to give you a smooth experience. The sound of the game was great and over the top as your characters power up and pull off there special moves and ultimates.

The Hard Knock Verdict

one piece burning blood2

Once Piece Burning Blood could been the next best fighting game with a huge cast of characters, beautiful amazing graphics. With all that being said the game did not give any backstory or relationship of the characters except Luffy and his brother, Ace leaving any new players to the series confused. The controls are simple and easy to use were you can just jump in and start playing but hitting your opponent with the attack you want to use can be hard at times.
