Hello Pokemon Go-ers, I am sure you have heard about people who have been playing Pokemon Go with a GPS-spooking program. This means that players who use this program can sit comfortably at home while an active bot does all the walking around that the user should be doing in order to find Pokemon. The developers, Niantic do not like this approach towards the game, and as a result of “Cheating” the account will be permanent banned stopping these users from playing Pokemon Go ever again. The Terms of service now clearly mentions:
“This includes, but is not limited to: falsifying your location, using emulators, modified or unofficial software and/or accessing Pokemon Go clients or backends in an unauthorised manner including through the use of third-party software”
The Developers have said they are taking these steps to ensure that the game’s ambition stays true to creating a “fair, fun and legitimate game experience” for all the Pokemon Go players. I am sure Niantic intend to continue their efforts in achieving this, as they said:
“We will continue to work with all of you to improve the quality of the gameplay, including ongoing optimisation and fine tuning of our anti-cheat system,” it said. “If you believe your account has been terminated in error incorrectly, you can appeal that termination through this form. For privacy reasons, please do not post appeals on social media.”
The popular Pokemon Go bots, such as NecroBot, are reported to be shutting down according to Polygon. The Bot’s creator told Polygon that they have taken the program’s files down in response to the issued bans. The developers feel that these bots undermine the spirit behind Pokemon Go by allowing players to perform the game’s actions with having to leave the house. They said their goal is for the game to get people outside into the real world. (I agree with them)
A statement from the NercoBot GitHub page reads “Due to legal action being started against other bot creators/devs (we did not receive a letter yet) the Project development will be stopped. All Source Files / Downloads will be removed,”
The other Bot systems, such as HaxtonBot and PokeMobBot have also been rumoured to be shutting down. Polygon stated that the previous penalty for cheating in Pokemon Go was a “soft ban” which allowed the banned users to keep playing. However, they could not catch any Pokemon or participate in any gym battles.
Personally, I agree with the punishment these users will receive, but maybe they should be given a warning first, then if nothing changes issue the ban. What are your thoughts on the use of bots in Pokemon Go? Do you agree with the punishment these users will receive? Or do you have different thoughts? Be sure to let us know.
